International Week of Deaf People

Event description: 

Every year we celebrate International Week of Deaf People (IWDP) during the last full week of September. This year, IWDP is September 23-29. The chairperson for this year’s IWDP committee is Chisom Ofomata, the president of the ASL@Yale student organization.

Events and activities open to everyone: 

  • Monday 12:00-1:30PM Signing Tables @Commons 
  • Tuesday 7:00PM ASL Film Screening: Sign Gene @Davies Auditorium 
  • Wednesday 6:00PM Gene Therapy and Deaf Culture: Ethics and Perspectives panel discussion on Zoom
  • Thursday 3:00PM ASL Campus activities @Sterling Memorial Library 

Focused Events:

  • Tuesday 9:30AM-12:30PM, Yale Deaf History Exhibit @Beinecke Library. ASL classes will attend at this time, so email us directly if you’d like to stop in or to view the new ASL translations of the artifacts on display, produced by ASL140 students with Leslie Rubin. 
  • Thursday 8:30-9:15AM, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community Gathering in Dow Library. All DHH students, faculty, staff, and family members of DHH people are invited to join.
