This event has passed.

We warmly invite you and your students to the next event in our Ukraine New Cinema series: a screening of Alina Gorlova’s award-winning documentary This Rain Will Never Stop (2020).

This visually stunning black-and-white film follows Andriy, the son of a Kurdish-Syrian family who fled war in Syria and rebuilt their lives in Ukraine, only to find themselves caught again in the violence of another conflict. Through Andriy’s journey across Syria, Ukraine, Germany, and Iraq, the film reflects on the unending cycle of war and peace, and the profound ways in which cultures, histories, and identities intertwine. Winner of the IDFA Award for Best First Appearance, the documentary brings together Ukrainian and Syrian experiences of displacement and resilience in a way rarely seen on screen. Its extraordinary cinematography and poetic storytelling create an unforgettable cinematic experience, one that resonates deeply with themes of cultural connection, survival, and shared humanity. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Alina Gorlova, moderated by Yale Professor and filmmaker Sahraa Karimi.

We hope you will encourage your students to attend and join us for this extraordinary evening of cinema, conversation, and reflection across cultures.
