Part-Time Language Partners Needed

Last Update: July 2025

ANNOUNCEMENT

Seeking Language Partners:

Each semester, the Yale Center for Language Study seeks native speakers of several languages to serve as “Language Partners” for Yale students who are studying those languages independently in the Directed Independent Language Study (DILS) program and Fields Program.  Over the past 20 years, 100+ languages have been studied by Yale students.

More Info:

As a Language Partner, you will not be a formal teacher. Instead, you role will be more like a tutor, helping Yale students practice the language in through in-person or videoconference-based conversation sessions, providing brief progress updates to the program director.

Each language partnership includes from one to three students, meeting together in a small group in two 1-hour sessions per week for 12 weeks (a total of 24 sessions). Because this is not a for-credit program, students and language partners decide among themselves when to meet. Usually, students study in the program for more than one semester.

As this is a non-credit program, the students are very motivated and dedicated. Typically, the experience is a very rich and enjoyable one for students and language partners alike.

Compensation:

Language partners are compensated $1,440.00 for each semester of work, as outlined above.

Inquiries and Application Process:
