Event description:

For this Brown Bag, Lourdes Sabé, Senior Lector I from the Department of Spanish and Portuguese will present her novel project on: Engaging Students in Conversational Practice Using Double-Track Audio Files

Abstract:

Studies have shown that students enrolled in hybrid and online language courses can acquire better speaking skills than students enrolled in classes with no online component, particularly in pronunciation. During my Professional Development Leave, I produced a series of web-based activities for students of Spanish using double-track video and audio files. These files provide interactive online practice outside of the classroom and currently are being implemented in Intensive Elementary Spanish (SPAN 125). This project provides real-life conversations to facilitate the acquisition of both formal and informal communication skills. The guiding philosophy of the files can be found in the attempt to capture humor and spontaneity, which are essential elements to make the learning experience more memorable and successful. Examples of the videos will be shown, and the results to date will be discussed.
