Oral Performance Assessment (OPA 2)
About the OPA2
This assessment is designed to measure your ability to communicate in English in an instructional format. The topics are drawn from your field of study and are suggested by your advisor or your DGS. The test demonstrates how well you speak English in the context of presenting information in your academic area to undergraduates. The OPA consists of 2 sections, a 10-minute teaching segment and an office visit. It is presented in a classroom with a whiteboard and is videotaped. At least two raters will rate your performance.
The OPA assessment is held in the Yale Center for Language Study and is offered three (3) times a year, usually in August, January and May. The OPA may be used as an alternative to the SPEAK if eligibility requirements are met. Please contact James Tierney by email or 203-432-6806 for eligibility.
